Science Fair and Squash

Posted on June 14th, 2008 in squash, Science Fair by gregtai

Hi again,

 Science Fair.

My school is having Science Fair soon and this will the first time I have been involved in one. My question is ‘What is the effect on the fizziness of Coke when different substances are added?’ I will be using salt, baking soda, sugar and sand. I will pour these into bottles of Coke and find out the amount of Coke that comes out of the bottles. If you want to find out more about this year’s science fair at my school go to http://ultranet.teawamutuint.school.nz/. Here you can also find out some other exciting things happening at my school this year.

Squash.

On the weekend I played in a Squash Tournament at Te Awamutu. I was in division one and I was the eighth seed. In my first game I played an E2 who was about twice my size. I lost in three but I had fun because we had lots of long rallies. In my second game I played an F grader. I’m a J1 so it was going to be a hard game because he is a higher grade than me. Last time I played this boy it was a very close game and I lost in five. This time I lost in three but the first game was really close. I didn’t play another game because the second seed pulled out because he injured his leg so my last game was a bye. I won ten dollars in this tournament .

Mokau and Squash

Posted on June 8th, 2008 in squash, Holidays by gregtai

Hi Again,

Last weekend my family went to Mokau and stayed 1 night. We stayed in a small yellow cabin that had 2 bunk beds. We had a good time at the beach but it was too cold to go for a swim. We enjoyed walking on the beach and looking for stones and shells. Me and my family also had fun climbing up a steep hill and sliding back down. The weather was fine until the last day while we were enjoying being on the beach before we left.

This weekend I played in a squash tournament in Otorohanga. I was the first seed and played a boy called Henry and won easily 9 - 0, 9 - 1, 9 - 5. I lost my second game in five against a boy called Montell who I’ve played before and won in five, so it was a really close game. I won my last game in four 9 - 7, 6 - 9, 9 - 5 and 9 - 0 in the fourth against a boy called Sean. In the end I came runner up and my prize was a fifty dollar note. I had a great time playing my games in this tournament. Next week I will be playing in another tournament. My games will be harder because I’ll be in the top division.

Squash Age groups and soccer

Posted on May 24th, 2008 in squash, soccer by gregtai

Hi Again,

This week I have been involved in a squash tournament called the Waikato age groups. I was in the under 13 boys division. At the age groups I played two games against either eleven year old boys or twelve year old boys. Normally I would have played three games but I ended up playing only two because my opponent defaulted in my second game. In my first I game I played a boy called Jack.I won in four. Jack won the first game 10 - 8, Then I won the next three, 9 - 1, 9 - 5, 9 - 0. Since I won that game and in my second game I won by default, I had to play a 12 year old boy called Blake who was a higher grade than me. Blake won the first game 9 - 7. We were both tired after that game. Blake won the second game 9 - 5. After that game Blake only needed to win one more game to win the match but luckily for me I won that next game 9 - 6. Both of us were very tired after that game but neither of us were going to give up. I won the fourth game 10 - 9. It was so close. The next game was the decider and I won it 9 - 1. I was so pleased because I became the new under 13s champion! My prize was $60 and a trophy.

On Saturday I played soccer for Pirongia. We played a Hamilton team called the Western United Cannons at Hamilton. My team won 4 - 1. I didn’t score any goals but I played well. That was our last of four grading games and we’ve won all of them. My team’s next game will probably be against a more even team than the previous ones we’ve played against. I’m looking forward to our next game.

Trumpet and Soccer

Hi again,

Earlier this week I went on a three day band camp at Totara springs with my school and Matamata school. We arrived on Monday after about an hour bus trip and had our first practice as a group. There were three groups of children - Choir, Senior band and Junior band. That’s my group. It was one and a half hours long! My lips were really sore after that. We had another three practices the same length that day, having food and playing outside in between. There was a heated pool and we had a great time in it but we couldn’t put our heads under because there was a chance we could get sick.

On Tuesday after a long night we woke up ready for the concert later that night. We had two more practices and then a dress rehearsal. We practiced all the songs we would play and presented them to the other groups in the order we would play them that night. When the time of the concert came we were all dressed in our good clothes. We walked into the hall and performed our songs. Some of our songs were difficult but we played them almost perfectly. The concert was great and we all had a great time.

On Wednesday we didn’t have any practices. It was all fun and games. There was an awesome waterslide that you could go really fast on. I had a great time on the waterslide.

I had a great time at band camp and I’m looking forward to going there again.

Soccer!

I played another game of soccer today and our team had another win 9-1. I got player of the day for scoring one goal and setting up a few. A striker on my team scored 4 goals and was put back in defence. He then scored a goal from half way! I played much better than last week and I was pleased with how I played.

Bye for now, Gregory.

Soccer and Holidays

Posted on May 6th, 2008 in Holidays, soccer by gregtai

Hi again, it’s me back from my holidays, i’ll tell you a bit about them.

The soccer season is starting back up for me now and my team has had our first game last Saturday. I’m a striker in my team and scored 1 goal in that game helping us to win  6-2 .  The half time score was 3-2 to my team but our oranges at half time gave us plenty of energy for my team to create loads of opportunities to score goals.

I went to a soccer, school holiday program for 3 days from 9am-3pm. I had a great time learning new skills and getting back into soccer. I really enjoyed the mini 5 aside world cup. My team was Argentina. We came 3rd out of 6 teams. I had a great time there.

My family went to Rotorua for some of the holidays. We stayed at a nice hotel for 1 night which I enjoyed apart from the fact the beds were very uncomfortable and I barely got any sleep. We went on the Gondola and enjoyed a great view of the lake. We also went on the Luge . The luge is similar to a mini race car that you drive that doesn’t have a roof. It was great fun racing down the hill and around sharp corners.

Camp and Squash

Posted on April 12th, 2008 in Camp by gregtai

Hi Again,

On Tuesday the 8th of April my class went on camp at Ohope. It was a long drive from Te Awamutu Intermediate and we were all pleased to arrive. We went to the hot pools for about an hour and a half that night and came back before dinner.

On Wednesday my class went to the High ropes and the Maze. At the high ropes we all put our harnesses and our helmets on before going in the air. I went on 3 of the 6 high rope choices. At the first one I went on there were 5 wooden planks to jump from to the next one. This was difficult but I managed to get across. The second one I went on was a twisty ladder. This was pretty easy but very fun. The last one I went on was my favourite. I had to climb high on a pole and stand up at the top and jump to try and catch a trapeze. I missed the trapeze when I jumped but I had fun doing this. We later drove to the maze getting lost many times. I didn’t enjoy the maze as much as high ropes. We were looking for pictures and answers rather than trying to find our way out. We went to the hot pools again that night.

On Thursday we went kayaking, fishing and walked to Shelly Bay. While fishing I caught one fish which wasn’t very big. I had lots of fun kayaking and playing games in the kayak. I thought the walk to Shelly Bay was too long but looking for pipis along the beach was fun. We went to the hot pools again that night and had a BBQ there. We left camp on Friday after having a great time there.

On Friday and Saturday I was in a squash tournament in Hamilton. I played 3 games winning all my games easily. I won boys division 2.

Saturday Cricket

Posted on March 31st, 2008 in Cricket by gregtai

Hi again,

I recently played cricket for my club team. We lost to Peachgrove. Their team batted first and scored 247 runs after 35 overs. Our team scored 175 runs in total including 64 runs from a batsman in our team. This is the fist time anyone in our team has scored a half century (50) this season. I scored 7 runs before I was caught. I bowled Peachgrove’s top scorer (72) out. I was very pleased with myself.

Trumpet

Posted on March 23rd, 2008 in Trumpet by gregtai

Hi Everyone,

I am learning to play the trumpet. When I first started I found blowing into the trumpet and making sound hard to do. I am much better at this now and I get the right sound most of the time. I have lessons on Mondays after school and on Thursday in the morning during school hours. I practice for at least half an hour at home each day. I’m looking forward to going on band camp in May. We will be performing in front of a large crowd on the second day there. I am enjoying learning the trumpet.

Bye for now, Gregory

My term1 goals

Posted on March 19th, 2008 in School by gregtai
  • To try my best in the referees group and be the best I can at refereeing. To achieve this I will have to make sure I know all the game rules and do my best whenever I get the chance to referee.
  • To practice trumpet hard and become a good trumpet player. To achieve this I will have to continue practicing as much as I am at the moment.
  • Hand all my work in on time. To achieve this I will have to keep track of what work is due in and when.
  • To read books of all different sorts of genre. To achieve this I will have to continue to read as many books as I can of different genres.
